Same as last year, same rules apply. I had to have discovered the song this year or started liking the song this year. I just love lists too much, here we go again.

Honorable mentions: No Wave - IDK/Denzel Curry

For Y'all - Young Thug/Jacquees

Keep the Faith (Faithful Extended Remix) - dvsn

3 super fucking good songs, just had a strong showing this year and didn't make the cut. Denzel's verse on No Wave is so fucking hard and Thugger is super versatile. Keep the Faith almost made the top 10 literally cause of that part that starts around 2:00, but the rest of the song wasn't too much better than Faithful so I decided against it.

10. Baby Esther - Kyle Dion

I'm a huge sucker for music that uses electric guitar sounds. Kyle Dion is someone who I been lowkey following since I found him last year. Good vocals combined w that guitar puts this at number 10. Also there's a great live version of this from Colors that's worth a watch.

9. Ye vs. the People - Kanye West/TI

OK hear me out, the way ye puts both versions of this argument in one song is commendable in itself. He also does it in a song that actually fucking sounds good, and TI turned out to be a way better fit for the people than I thought. Kanye had a whack fucking year but I'll always support even tho I may not always agree. The way he can make music so distinctly "his" is always gonna hook me. Even other shit he put out this year like XTCY or his Kids See Ghost collab pushed his own boundaries and I'm a fan.

8. 500 Benz

Joey's flow is legit methodical, his wordplay on this song fits the grounded beat so much. The 90's hip hop influence Joey usually brings is really prominent here too. It's a very mellow song that he executes super clean.

7. Do It Well - dvsn

I had this song on repeat for a solid month along w Hallucinations when I first heard them in April. I listened to some dvsn before but they were definitely my overall favorite artist that I really started listening to this year. Their Sept. 5 album was a top 5 album of all time for me prolly. It's also nice that the first half of this video is With Me, which I also considered putting in this list. This song and dvsn is the exact type of old school rnb with a modern sound that I love so much.

6. Gorgeous - Kanye West/Kid Cudi/Raekwon

I fully listened to MBDTF in August, having only heard singular songs off there before and am I glad I did. Found a fucking gem in Gorgeous, not to mention also fully appreciating the outro of Runaway. But it's that damn electric guitar sound again which is the entire backing track. This is a huge answer to people that argue Ye ain't lyrical. Cudi was also hard on the chorus and Raekwon put on a solid last verse too.

5.Nonstop - Drake

When I first listened to this song I thought it was good but not this good. For some reason the MV made me give serious reconsideration to the song cause I didn't realize it was this hard? This is prolly Drake's literal hardest song since he usually in his feelings too much. This song is the single hardest song of the year. That second half of the first verse has god flow.

4. Take it All - Kiana Lede

Had a great time repeating this song there and back from Banff this year. I feel like one of these types of stripped down acoustic female rnb songs always makes my top 10. It's such a specific genre but last year it was Ella Mai's Naked. Now that I think about it they're actually so similar, even the lyrics are pree much about the same vulnerable love situation. Maybe it's cause I play guitar so I'm biased? Idk this sound is too nice tho so it's number 4.

3. Ric Flair Drip - Metro Boomin/Offset

OK drip is real relevant in the title cause this song is wet af. It's so fucking hard and so fucking smooth at the same time. This is like by far the best I ever heard Offset snap and Metro always got banging beats so it's a winning combination. The breakdown instrumental is also incredible.

2. Skyfall - Travis Scott/Young Thug/Metro Boomin

I don't even know where to start w why this so is so fire. A Travis and Metro production duo is actually so next level. There's so many aspects to this song layered in a lengthy 5:18 experience. Even something so simple as Travis's background vocals that starts the song. Also how it's able to play w the depth of the vocals and all the vibrato like holy shit there's so much goin on here. Travis puts on a solid verse but I would say Thugger's verse here is ridiculous. Days Before Rodeo is a top 2 project for me all time so I can't believe I didn't really give this song a chance until like end of this year. Travis gotta actually rap more tho Astroworld was kinda trash, his trap sound is honestly wearing out a bit on me cause all his new stuff sounds so similar.

1. Dancing with the Devil - NIKI

If you knew me at all you know this was coming. This was fosure my favorite song of 2018. No explanation really needed. NIKI's debut project was overall very impressive even minus this song so I hope she continues to ride that wave next year.
